Hatchfund Spring 2015 Regional Updates

HF-logo-jpgHatchfund is a not-for-profit crowdfunding platform dedicated to helping  artists fund their dreams. Here are a few of our favorite upcoming events in San Francisco, Portland, Miami, Omaha, Los Angeles, Detroit and Austin.

San Francisco, CA

The Shotgun Players will present a reimagining of the Antigone story with Antigonick, opening March 26th. Be sure to visit Storyland for a 3D journey into three classic children’s books. The Junior Bach Festival spans from March 13-22, and will feature musicians under the age of 21 performing a series of concerts throughout the Bay Area. Be sure to visit Chris Eckert: Mechanical Parables at the Museum of Craft and Design, for a unique view of art and engineering.


Portland, OR

The Funhouse Lounge will present Flair: An Office Space “Parody”, from March 5-28. The Lincoln Performance Hall takes you on a journey to Russia with music from The Hermitage Piano Trio March 16 & 17. Explore the dark world of human trafficking with Portland Metro Arts as they present Lost in the Shadows from February 27-March 8. Or, celebrate the stories of those that came before us with Hipbone Studio’s presentation of Footsteps of our Forbearers: A Celebration of Our Ancestors on March 7th.


Miami, FL

On Sunday March 8 The Greater Miami Youth Symphony will present a concert of Taiwanese and Chinese symphonic works and folk melodies. Don’t miss Flamenco Ballet Sara Baras as they make their Arsht Center debut at the Flamenco Festival Miami from March 12-14. The Frost Opera Theater will present Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica by Giacomo Puccini on February 26 & 28. Omaha, NE

Be sure to visit The Holland Performing Arts Center for an intimate performance by musician Matthew Sweet on March 28th. The Joslyn Art Museum presents American Moderns 1910–1960: From O’Keeffe to Rockwell from February 08, 2015 – May 17. Also, don’t miss Omaha’s Latino dance company, “CHOMARI” as they perform throughout the year at El Museo Latino and at several other venues in the Omaha area.


Los Angeles, CA

The Norton Simon Museum will host the first ever exhibition of “Portrait of the Artist’s Mother” aka Whistler’s Mother by James Whistler, beginning March 27th. David Misch will take a look at the history of musical satire focusing on Gilbert & Sullivan, hosted by Carpenter Family Terrace on March 9th. Friday the 13th will be the perfect time to be scared witless at the abandoned zoo in Griffith Park, when the great horror camp out projects the film Friday the 13th on the big screen. The Muckenthaler Cultural Center will host a poetry night on March 26th.


Detroit, MI

Join the National Conference of Artists as they celebrate National Women’s Month. Stop by Arts and Scraps to donate to their ongoing arts education program. Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo in Detroit will open March 15 at the Detroit Institute of Art. Be sure to visit the 555 Gallery for their Third Thursday open gallery night. Typically their current artist in residence will make an appearance to educate and answer questions.


Austin, TX

The Harry Ransom Center will be hosting a series of Lewis Carroll themed events and exhibits, including Poetry on the Plaza: Poetry of Lewis Carroll on March 4th. Senior Research Curator of Photography Roy Flukinger will also speak about the photography of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson—better known to the world as Lewis Carroll. Art gallery Big Medium is participating for the second year in AMPLIFY AUSTIN on March 5-6. This is an opportunity to grow local non-profits in Austin. The Superlative Light opens at Art.Science.Gallery on March 7. Don’t miss ACC Rio Grande Campus Kramer Gallery, March 4 through April 2, 2015. It is Austin Community College’s 2015 group exhibition featuring paintings by student artists.
